This class is designed to allow a student to receive a basic AWS Welding Qualification / Certification. The class is good for a single position AWS D1.1 Prequalified qualification / certification. AWS D1.1 is the structural steel welding code.
Students can choose a single welding process and a single welding position. The welding processes available are the GMAW process, FCAW process, or the SMAW process. The welding positions available for the test are 1G, 3G, or 4G. All tests are performed on 3/8” thick plate for a Limited Thickness AWS Qualification / Certification.
Day One will be spent with minimal classroom time to give a brief explanation of the AWS D1.1 welding code and what qualification / certification means. The rest of the time in Day 1 will be spent in the welding lab practicing the welding test.
Day Two will be spent taking the welding test.
General Air’s goal is for the student to pass the welding test and receive a welding qualification / certification. However, General Air does not guarantee that a student will pass the welding test and receive the qualification / certification. A student is allowed one retest test plate for an additional $90.
A 4 – 1/2 “ angle grinder is required for the class. Students will be responsible for beveling and prepping their practice plates. The test plate issued on Day 2 will be pre-beveled.
The class is from 7:30am – 3:45pm each day.
Notes:
If a student doesn’t have the PPE described above, these items will be provided for use during class.
Leather closed toed shoes are required in the welding lab.
Absolutely no shorts or open toed shoes are allowed in the welding lab.
